The fifth graders host a variety of fundraisers throughout the year. The profits from these activities directly fund the Fifth Grade Fun Night and the Moving-On Ceremony. (HOP does not pay for these events… they are entirely self-funded.) Parent involvement is necessary for these events to occur; however, the fifth graders are counted on to play a large role in organizing and planning each event. This year the fifth graders will host a movie night in December, run the school store in January/February and hold a car wash and bake sale (“Suds and Sweets”) in May.

Brief Description of Fifth Grade Events:
Movie Night … On Thursday, December 1st, the entire school is invited to see a movie that will have just recently been released. This event is run by the fifth graders and their parents. Refreshments and snacks are served and fun is had by all! Volunteers are needed for advertising, ticket sales and refreshment sales. Contact Movie Night parent coordinators Andrea DeMichele and Margot Hines with any questions.
School Store … With much assistance from parents and teachers, the fifth grade students run a school store for a five-week period from January through February. Parents help to facilitate the organization and display of materials and supervise the selling and cleaning up. They also help to facilitate the making of posters, etc. to advertise. Some parent help will also be needed in December when supplies come in. The store is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:45-9:05 a.m. A variety of fun items are sold at the store, which is set up in the cafeteria. Contact School Store parent coordinator with any questions.
Car Wash (Suds & Sweets) May 13th (rain date May 20th) … Are you ready to get wet??!!! All fifth graders are encouraged and welcome to participate in the Suds & Sweets Car Wash in the Haynes parking lot. Parents facilitate students in advertising this event, gathering supplies, and planning the bake sale. Student responsibilities include making posters, announcing the event at school meeting, and performing the car wash duties on the day of the event. Contact Molly Logan, Maggie Walsh, or Emily Hayes with any questions.
Fifth Grade Fun Night, June 9th … The event the fifth graders look forward to the most is Fifth Grade Fun Night. This is a spectacular end-of-the-year party. It is a time for fifth graders to celebrate their elementary years coming to a close by spending an evening together enjoying a DJ, dancing, singing, games, snacking, and simply, having fun. The night is funded solely by fundraising activities that are organized and led by the fifth grade students throughout the year. Because the fifth grade students are responsible for raising this money, the students play a big role in planning this event along with the parents and staff members. Contact Fun Night parent coordinators Jill Kushinky or Allison Evans with any questions.
Moving-On Ceremony, June 19th … This is the event that marks the graduation for the fifth graders from Haynes. There is a performance by the 5th graders and a slide show set to music capturing moments from kindergarten through 5th grade. The Haynes teachers have been saving student’s work over the years, and a portfolio of each student’s work will be compiled and presented to him/her. This is a very special event and one not to be missed! Contact Moving-On Ceremony coordinators Tracy Garozzo or Jackie Kilroy with any questions.
Thank you in advance for your support!
