The Festivals are sponsored by HOP. The Festival Chair for the 2010-2011 school year is Theresa Kneeland.
Parents and guardians are needed to run the various stations at each festival. The individual festival co-chairs will contact parents in their respective grades to request assistance.

Chicken Festival -
In the classroom, the students explore the developmental stages of a chick within the egg. The festival is a celebration of the learning that takes place in the classroom. During the festival, the students will play games, create crafts, listen to a story, and enjoy music and snacks.

Japan Day -
This a celebration of the First Grade's study of Japanese culture. Through experiencing traditional crafts, food, Tea Ceremony, Japanese writing, and stories, the children will explore this unique culture. Fish prints that the children make in the First Grade Craft Center will be displayed at Japan Day.

Mexico Day -
This is a celebration of the Second Grade's study of Mexican culture. In a traditional setting, the children will barter for goods at the Mercado, they will create and sample food at the Cantina and open homemade piñatas (that they make at the Second Grade Craft Center).

Colonial Day -
The Third Graders will take a step back in time to experience life as a colonial child. They will explore this period of history by engaging in craft-making, games, and learning proper manners of the day while enjoying a traditional meal. They will visit a colonial home and also learn about the use medicinal herbs. The crafts that the students make in the Third Grade Craft Center will be used as decorations at Colonial Day.

Science Day -
The purpose of this festival is to reinforce the Fifth Grade Science curriculum through hands-on experiential learning. The students become scientists for a day; they create hypotheses which they test through experiments and draw conclusions based on their results.
